Housing FAQs
Yes! However, the college MUST have accepted both students’ applications, and both must have paid their housing deposits and completed the On-Campus Housing Preference Form.
Students need to ensure that both students request each other as future roommates on the On-Campus Housing Selection Form. The college mails these documents to all returning students in the spring semester. Once the college accepts a student’s application, they email them the form - in May or throughout the summer.
Please communicate with your potential roommate about who will select the housing and which available one to select. Communication with each other is critical!
- First, you should indicate your need and gather all required documentation of your disability, such as specialist diagnosis and doctor’s recommendation.
- Secondly, be sure to contact Accessibility Services at (919) 497-3302.
The Office of Housing & Residence Life works in coordination with the Accessibility Services Director to evaluate your need, determine eligibility, and make any reasonable accommodations.
It depends...
- You may switch your room or roommate by contacting the Office of Housing & Residence Life at (919) 497-3247 or by emailing housing@jmswierski.com before the semester begins.
- After the semester starts, housing assignments are “frozen” for two weeks. The Office of Housing & Residence Life handles room change requests on a case-by-case basis and authorizes changes at their discretion.
Room “Freeze” Periods:
For Louisburg College to verify all housing assignments -- and for you to have time to adjust to college life and get to know your roommate -- we require that all students remain in their original room for the first two weeks of each semester. At check-in and during the “freeze,” students should fill out roommate contracts and discuss their living habits together.
Following that time, we will have a two-week move period where any resident can move as long as they follow all procedures and receive approval from Housing & Residence Life.
A suite-style residence hall refers to two rooms joined together by a bathroom. Up to four residents would share the bathroom. Students are responsible for providing their toilet paper, cleaning supplies, and cleaning the bathroom regularly. Merritt, Patten, Kenan, Hillman-Morris, and Joyner are suite-style.
A community-style residence hall has one bathroom shared by the floor community. Up to forty residents may share this bathroom. Multiple showers and toilet stalls with individual privacy are in each bathroom. The college's housekeeping staff provides toilet paper and cleans the bathrooms daily. Franklin, Wright, and the second floor of Joyner are community-style residence halls.
Below is a non-inclusive list of items you should consider bringing to campus. Please note there are specific items the college does not permit in the halls due to safety

- Trash can with bags
- Pictures and posters - We recommend Poster Putty - students may use NO nails, tacks, or items that damage walls.
- Alarm clock
- Sheets - extra-long twin
- Mattress pad
- Bedspread or comforter
- Towel
- Shower caddy and flip flops
- Seasonal clothing
Hints:
Remember that space for clothing is limited. If you plan to go home frequently, you can plan your wardrobe accordingly and only bring the items you need until your next trip. If, however, you plan to go home only once or twice each semester, you should have adequate clothing to cover the time.
Weather:
The temperature in Louisburg ranges in the 80s for August and September, gradually cooling to averages in the 40s by December. January and February typically see temperatures range 20 degrees to 50 degrees, while March and April temperatures range in the 50s and 60s. Extreme variations from these averages are always possible. Located north of Raleigh, Louisburg generally has hot and humid summers, and winters are short and mild compared to other parts of the country, with snow being a rarity.
Please coordinate with your roommate about the items each is bringing. Organizing who will bring larger items assists with more effectively using your space.
Electrical power, especially in the older buildings, is limited. Heavy-duty grounded extension cords or grounded "power strips" with an integrated circuit breaker are permitted. Students may use light-duty, ungrounded, two-prong extension cords -UL listed for lamps, alarm clocks, and other low-wattage appliances only. The college does not permit using light-duty extension cords in the residence halls for any other purposes, as it is a fire hazard.

- Crockpots
- Drum sets or other loud instruments
- Electric blankets
- Electric or kerosene heaters
- Electric woks or frying pans
- Firearms, guns, or ammunition
- George Foreman or similar grills
- Halogen lamps
- Hoverboards
- Multi-plug outlets unless with a surge protector.
- Sandwich makers
- Toaster or toaster ovens
The college does not permit pets in the residence halls, except fish in a 10 gallon or less aquarium. The college does not allow students to build lofts in the residence halls.
The college owns some bunk beds. If you are interested in bunk beds, contact your Resident Assistant after moving into your room.
Refer to the Student Handbook online for a full list of prohibited items. The department regularly updates the handbook with this information.
We do not have curfews, so students are free to come and go as they please. We do have a visitation and escort policy for members of the opposite sex. -see the Student Handbook.
If you plan to be off-campus for more than two days during a period you would typically be present; we ask that you notify a member of the Residence Life staff before leaving.
All residence halls have secure front entrances and bedroom doors. Only those with a valid ID or hard key and pre-authorized access are permitted and able to enter.
The college assigns all students a campus mailbox and email account. You receive your campus mailbox number when you arrive for check-in. When the college accepts a student, they send them their email information and login credentials. Students may also contact their admissions counselor for this information.

Students must have their cars registered and correctly display a college parking permit, which students purchase from the Business Office.
Limited parking is available near the residence halls.
Students may not park in Main Building’s circle parking lot. These parking spaces are for faculty, staff, and visitors only.
Louisburg College provides laundry machines free of cost to all residence hall students.
Since many students tend to do their laundry around the same time, the college offers "Laundry View".
"Laundry View" is an internet application that allows students to monitor washers and dryers’ status through a web browser. Students may access the application.
Louisburg College does not assume any legal obligation for loss or damaged personal property including any personal items that are stolen or damaged.
The NSSI is a smart investement for college students and their familiies as it provides protection for personal items as well as protecting you financially for unintended damage to your residence for which you are liable.
